Started with some Western Swing and then moved into the new stuff (denoted with an *); I love Western Swing and highly recommend Rhino's Heroes of Country Music: Legends of Western Swing as a starting place (the whole series is good). Features seminal folks like Tex Williams, Hank Thompson, and Spade Cooley. My dad used to tell me the story of how Spade Cooley called his daughter, Melody, home from school so he could make her watch him stomp his wife, Ella, to death. My father always used to tell me that after Spade had kicked his wife's head in, he put out his cigarette in her face. I always wondered if this was an embellishment...
