Thirty years ago this weekend, Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashed carrying the band between shows in Greenville, SC, and Baton Rouge, LA. Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and his sister Cassie, one of the group's backing vocalists, died in the crash; the remaining members were injured. (The cause of the crash was either fuel shortage or a fault with the plane's mechanics.) In tribute to the band, I played a couple of songs from the Drive By Truckers "Southern Rock Opera," an album dedicated to the legendary Lynrd Skynrd.
Drive By Truckers - The Three Great Alabama Icons - Southern Rock Opera (Lost Highway)
Drive By Truckers - Shut Up and Get on the Plane - Southern Rock Opera (Lost Highway)

Dwight Yoakam - Act Naturally - Dwight Sings Buck (New West)*
